Not your Grandfather’s ranch

Viewing homes is something REALTORS do on a regular basis. Large estates, garden homes, spec homes in new subdivisions, even mobile homes. But the home I previewed last week will forever be branded in my memory as one of the most interesting homes that I have seen.

10861 Hwy 173 Headland, Alabama 1There was nothing cookie cutter about this Ranch Style home just north of Headland. Let me begin by saying…This is not your GrandFather’s Ranch. There was no shortage of fencing as we drove into the drive way and looked across the pasture. The watch dogs were kept in their own yard with a fence surrounding the parameters of the home. Upon entering the home, the masculine decor screams sturdy and strong. Special pine paneling walls were decorated with beautiful pictures of horses and black silhouette ranch styling, with the warmth of a horse blanket. Pergo hardwood floors throughout and tile the owner states he imported from Florida is installed in both full bathrooms. We moved into the kitchen and dining room which was furnished with heavy wooden furnishings that barely moved when I tried to slide the chair from the table. Granite counter tops and modern appliances were in place in the kitchen, which he feels would only be a bother to take with him.

Hwy 173 Headland, Alabama 2Still in awe of this Rancher’s dream, I began to notice the contrast of technology. Flat screen Tvs in almost every room were suspended from the wall. Security systems and upgraded electrical panel had been installed. The first bedroom was as large as many master bedrooms, but was described as the guest bedroom. Moving into the master was a very pleasant surprise. The spacious master (16×44) opened up to a master bath of ceramic and glass. The glass shower and picture window would allow visual showering or soaking in a bubble bath jacuzzi while gazing out across the pasture where the horses and cows grazed. Nothing in this home was standard or simple. Even the rustic ‘exterior siding was Hardy Plank which has become very popular in many subdivisions similar to Grove Park. By now we are all familiar with its durability. His outdoor shower allowed him to rinse off the horse dust before going inside the 2 car garage.

Hwy 173 Headland, Alabama 3I am not a country girl, at least not any more, but if I were, this would be the perfect place. If you are a boot scootin’ wrangler at heart, you will be extremely happy with this home. The owner boasts of many pecan trees, a creek that runs through the wooded section and deer that roam freely about the 26 acres included with the home. There are 31 additional acres available adjoining this property, which can be purchased separately or all in one fell swoop. If you even think you would like to raise your own steak, this is the property to see. The owner would like to move back to Florida. Now we don’t hear that every day. Of late, we are hearing how folks are trying to move out of Florida…something about taxes and insurance. But, truly his job takes him to various parts of the Sunshine State and he is ready to give up his ranch for which he has put over $100,000 into upgrades.

Don’t let the HumV, the watch dogs, or the security system put you off, call me, Margaret Patrick (334)701-6357 or Jimmie Hollis (334)596-2493 and we will see that you get your own personal preview of this unforgettable Gentleman’s Ranch in

Headland, Sweet Home, Alabama
